Sometimes you have to let go of conceptions when you want to continue with creativity. By letting go you allow new things to come through.
This was originally an attempt to make something specific. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted so I just pushed and kept going and made something completely different. Hence the random within order.

according to Chinese legend the Black Turtle holds the
Earth on his back. A symbol of longevity and indestructibility.
The Guardian of the North represents the Universe and creation.

I did a google for a reference while doing this and found out that the Phoenix, Dragon, White Tiger and Turtle are the four guardians of the compass within Chinese legend.

The Guardians of the South and the East have now come to me in my paintings. Maybe Tiger and Turtle will be next.

Painting with yellows and purples can be quite challenging
I was able to create exactly the glowing warmth with these two compliments. The pink is the only other color I used.

The composition feels a little cramped but I like the dynamism of the figure falling out of the corner of the page and the movement of the feathers on the wings.

The subject hearkens to Everyman’s falling away from Light. It happens sometimes that we choose to be far from God and therefor far from on’es true self. The wings symbolize that we all have the ability to fly back to Goodness at any time.

I really wasn’t happy with how this one turned out. I thought about it way too much and it is tight and fussy, not at all like my others. I would like to try this one again in a much looser style.

I had no idea what was going to come out of this when I began this painting. I am happy with the results. A friend of mine commented that this piece made them think of the Tugley Wood in Lewis Carol’s Jaberwocky poem. I agree.
