Etz Chayim, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.

Etz Chayim isbased on Proverbs 3:17-18
English translation of the lyrics:
A tree of life to those who hold fast to it,and all who cling to it find happiness.
Its ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all its paths are peace.
Help us and guide us, inspire us and provide us
With the wisdom Your Torah can show.
Cause us to learn, renew and return,
Just as in days of old.

L’chah Dodi, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.

Come my Beloved to greet the bride
The Sabbath presence, let us welcome!

That is the translation of the Hebrew you see. The paintings is named for one of my favorite Hebrew songs in which
the Sabbath presence is depicted as a beautiful bride.
The Midrash teaches that G-d told the newly created Sabbath, ‘Israel shall be your mate.’ So when the Sabbath comes each week She advances toward Israel as if meeting her groom under the wedding canopy.
In my painting, the Bride wears a veil of the heavens the Moon lighting her way. She is drawn toward a little house in which Shabbat candle s are lit.

I I recently finished this as a commission for a friend of mine. She was thrilled with it and plans on giving it to her husband as a birthday gift.

This one came to me in a vision. Again I don’t feel like I got it quite right but here’s a link about women and symbolism in Native American Folklore. http://members.tripod.com/~warlight/MELDAN.html

Here’s another link to some Zuni Corn Maiden Fetish’s

Tiger Spirit, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.

White Tiger

keeper of the West

I finished the Four Chinese Guardians of the Compass when I realized that I had done White Tiger horizontally and the others were all vertical. I had been wanting to re-do Tiger anyhow and so here we are.
I am a bit happier with this one. It is the least abstract of all the paintings but I felt the subject called for it.

Phoenix, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.Today I decided to challenge myself to do 50 paintings in 50 days. Phoenix is the first painting I completed for the challenge. How appropriate I thought. Having been burned in it’s own fire the Phoenix arises a new from the ashes. A new beginning in my life in many ways. The wonder and beauty in this painting certainly reflects my outlook on life right now.
