An exhibition entitled Imagery in Jewish Song by Shoshanna Bauer will be shown at the Heartland Gallery in Urbana. The exhibition showcases the artist’s current works with Jewish themes inspired from Hebrew songs and prayers that she heard while she was growing up. Shoshanna is a local artist who has worked and lived in the Champaign-Urbana area for the past twenty-seven years. Within the past five years she has begun to emerge and make a name within the community as a Watercolorist. There will be a special reception for the Jewish community of Champaign-Urbana on Sunday September, 30th from 3pm-4pm.

It’s been a bit since I updated. This summer has been busy with family vacations, commissions and looking after my daughter while she is on Summer break from school.
I just wanted to mention that my work was recently reviewed at a website called www.nakedgenius.com. I wanted to post a link to the review because I agree with her vision that there are a lot of un-recognized artists that go un-noticed by the “Art World” and a lot of bad artists that get far too much recognition.
Anyhow here’s the link to the review so you can read it. (Click here)

I got this in my inbox today!
Shoshanna,
Congratulations! You have been selected as a Featured Artist of the Week at Imagekind!
We have selected an image from your gallery to be placed on the homepage of Imagekind.com, along with a short artist’s bio, which links to your imagekind profile. This will stay in place for at least a week and sometimes, dependent on its popularity, may continue in place for another week. This cycle usually takes place on each Wednesday.
It is our privilege to showcase your work as being outstanding amidst a field of so many other great artists and photographers. Our success is entirely about you, our creative community. Please tell your colleagues, friends and family about the #1 place on the web to discover and purchase original art.
Have a great day and we wish you continued success!
As a special aside Shoshanna, I can tell you that these features will stay in place until at least the 27th of March, as I failed to notify you and the other featured artists as this change took place this last Friday. Also, I do hope this helps make up for the miscommunication when you were mistakenly featured a second time as our Daily featured member. You do have some great work and I am happy to recognize it in this way.
Cheers,
Travis Young

I got my first check from Imagekind yesterday! Imagekind is the website where prints of my work are available for sale. I was also very excited to be their Featured Member of the Day on the 16th of February. I must say it is very satisfying to be able to upload an image of a painting I’ve done to the site and then later get paid for it.
Exhibition and Art News
I just purchased a software that will help me in the buisness side of making Art. It’s called WorkingArtist. So far I *love* it. It had everything I need. I have been able to create an inventory database, create invoicing, keep track of commissions and projects, log receipts, create mailing lists, even keep track of shows, and print my own Bio and resume!
March 25th I will be teaching a watercolor workshop at Sinai Temple with a theme being Jewish Symbols.
I just sent out my entry to New American Painting Magazine. I’m anxious to see how the jurying goes because if my work is chosen it will mean national exposure to collectors, curators and galleries, not to mention being published!
I just talked to the Art Coordinator at Aroma Cafe about pairing with them as a venue for the 2007 Boneyard Arts Festival.
I’m very excited about this venue because it is in the heart of Downtown Champaign and will get a lot of traffic the weekend of the festival. Save the date April 20, 21, and 22nd!
Also I will be showing work at the 2007 Artist’s Against AIDS sponsored by GCAP here in Champaign at the Orpheum Theater. The show opens April 27th and runs through the 30th.
I just booked an art show at Heartland Gallery for the weekend of September 29th. I will let you know more about that when the date gets closer.

Moo Cards 2, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.
Despite the insane blizzard ravaging outside the mailman came through and I got my Flickr Moo Cards! Moo cards are 4 color mini cards that I got from Moo.com for only $19.00 USD + Shipping. They only took 10 buisness days to get here.
You can have up to ONE HUNDRED different images made. I used 20 of the best images I had and so I got 4 of each kind that I wanted.
How cool is that?

Results for the 50 watercolors in 50 days painting challenge:
I began the challenge December 5th and it ended January 23.
In that time I created a total of 30 new paintings and uploaded 7 older works.
Of the 30 new paintings created 6 paintings were sold, one print was sold through Imagekind and 3 paintings were given away as gifts.
Of the older work shown 2 where donated to charity and sold at a silent auction
Overall I’d have to say this = Resounding success.
It would have been great to have done all 50 paintings. Things happened; the holidays,
illness, other things. But if I completed 60% of the paintings that’s still over a painting every
other day.
And I sold 20% of the work I created in 50 days time. Not too bad of a turnaround.
So I was going to keep going till I completed the 50 days but I decided not to because
my momentum was starting to droop. I’m going to Los Angeles California in two weeks to talk to some galleries
and see some friends so I think I’ll hold off from making a new goal till then.
Any ideas on what sort of realistic challenge I should give myself?
Ko Fusion
The owner has asked me to create entirely new work for display in her venue. She asked that I paint more on
the abstract end rather than the symbolic. I need to do 6 paintings similar to
Universal Paths
and 3 large sized.
New Possible Venue
So I joined 40 North/88 West the Champaign County Arts, Culture and Entertainment Council. They send out announcements and Calls to Arts ect.
Anyhow they sent out an email recently about a get together at Boltini Lounge. I was able to network and talk to many of the other members. The cool thing about 40 North is that they are partnered with local business owners to try and make Champaign into an “Artsy Town”.
I got to meet a woman who is the owner of a new gallery here in town. www.heartland-gallery.com We got to chatting and she remembered my work from when I used to teach and show at Creation Art Studios. I told her about my 50 days challenge and she was interested in knowing if I was going to show any of the work. We exchanged contact info and I called her today and she thought that August or September would be a good time for me to have a show there.
Yay!

My Studio, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.
I’m taking a class called The Business of Art taught by Deborah Fell.
She asked us to take photos of our Studio space and make some goals and define what your needs are and what your dreams are.
I am going to start a wishlist on www.dickblick.com so I can help better define what I need and want.
I could really use a small TV
and I’m also in need of a drying rack because the floor isn’t cutting it.

New tools, originally uploaded by Citrinepoint.
Mmm. New tools.
My Dickblick.com order came in today! There’s nothing like getting new supplies in the mail to make you want to be painting. I also got 10 sheets of a new brand of paper I’ve never used before. Fabriano Artistico Bright White 300lb hand made paper. If it works out I may be switching since it’s a little less expensive than Arches.
Here’s a list of the supplies in the picture:
Natural and synthetic sponges, Iridescent medium for watercolors, a new ceramic palet, Chinese and Titanium White, Iridescent Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Violet
